Board of Podiatric Medicine

Precedential Decision - November 3, 2000

As part of its mission of upholding the highest professional standards and protecting patients, the Board at its Nov. 3, 2000 public meeting approved a California Attorney General recommendation to make its 1999 decision in the Garey Lee Weber case [Case No. 1B-95-46977] "precedential." This means that the Board´s findings in this case can be applied in other cases.

While interested persons should read the full decision, paragraph A10 (page 6) summarizes it:

"Respondent's chosen method of post-surgical treatment, in which respondent refrains from post-operative casting and instructs patients to bear weight immediately after surgery, is not a recognized or approved alternate form of post-surgical treatment in California for patients who have undergone the form of surgical procedures employed by respondent, namely, bunionectomies via non-fixated base wedge osteotomies of the first metatarsal."
